LAKE TAHOE, NV

HIKING + HORSEBACK RIDING

I visited Lake Tahoe in Nevada several years ago when I went to stay with one of my best friends and her grandparents in Reno, Nevada. We drove up to Lake Tahoe on one of the days of our trip, and I have to say that it is one of the most beautiful places that I have been. When we arrived, we decided to go horseback riding at a ranch to experience the scenery in a whole new way. After our ride through the forests, we went hiking and took some amazing photographs. Read on to learn about the whole adventure!

Riding Through the Trees

After driving through the mountains to get to Lake Tahoe, we arrived at the ranch where we would be working with the horses and a guide to ride through the incredibly lush forests. I was a bit nervous, but our horses and guide were incredibly experienced and knew the trails extremely well. I have ridden horses several times before, and this was by far my favorite riding experience that I have ever had. It was truly magical and felt kind of like a dream to be traversing through the varied terrain on horseback. The trail ride was probably about an hour long, and I have to say that I did not want it to end. It was amazing because it allowed me to experience such a beautiful landscape in a whole new way.

If you plan on going horseback riding in Lake Tahoe, I recommend going with a rancher who is really experienced giving tours so that you feel safe with horses who have walked with people of different levels of experience many times before. I also recommend wearing long pants, some type of hat to help protect your eyes from dust and the sun, sturdy shoes (sneakers or hiking shoes will do), and a long-sleeved shirt or sweater as it's cooler in the forest because of the tree cover from the sun.

After the Ride

When we finished our trail ride, we then went to a restaurant nearby for some lunch. There are many places near Lake Tahoe to eat, so I don't think you can go wrong with any choice you make. After we took a rest and got some food, we walked down to the beach at Lake Tahoe for a little bit. One of the greatest things about Lake Tahoe is that you have some of the most beautiful forests you have ever seen but also some of the most beautiful beaches. After we walked on the beach, we decided to drive for a few minutes to do a hike on one of the many trails surrounding the lake.

Hiking the Trail

The trail that we chose was well paved and had several look out spots to just stop and and admire the views of Lake Tahoe. While horseback riding was amazing, I also recommend taking a hike around the mountains for an even more up-close experience with nature. As you can see in the picture on the left, there are many trails for various levels of hiking so that you can complete the trail that is right for you. We even encountered some snow on the trail as we ascended in altitude, which was really cool considering that we went in the summer! Even though I only visited Lake Tahoe for the day, it was completely worth it to see such picturesque scenery. If you enjoy outdoor activities at all, Lake Tahoe is definitely a must see!
